specimen number:

location:
George and Charlotte Mine, Tavistock, Devon, England, UK
description: Located near Tavistock in Devon, England, the George and Charlotte Mine is an eighteenth-century copper mine set in hydrothermally altered Devonian slate and volcanic rock cut by copper-bearing quartz veins. Operations extracted substantial quantities of chalcopyrite and pyrite during its primary working period. Today, the site forms a notable part of the area heritage tourist route, but it remains most famous among mineral collectors as the world premier type locality for producing the finest known specimens of childrenite, a hydrated iron aluminum phosphate mineral known for its lustrous brown micro-crystals.
Classic Cornish specimen, the front side of this matrix is covered by glistening micro crystals of brown childrenite. In great condition.
