Celestine
specimen number:
2063026
location:
Dundas Quarry, West Flamborough, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
description: The Dundas Quarry, located near Hamilton in West Flamborough, Ontario, operates within well-bedded sedimentary dolostones of the middle Silurian Lockport Formation, dating back approximately 425 million years. Historically, large-scale quarrying has focused on extracting these calcium-magnesium rich rocks for aggregate, building stone, and metallurgical fluxes. Beyond its industrial stone production, the site is exceptionally well known among mineral collectors and geologists for its vugs and fracture veins filled with diverse crystallization. Mineralizing fluids migrating through the strata long ago deposited notable specimens of calcite, fluorite, gypsum, marcasite, and various metallic sulfides within the sedimentary host rock.
Colorless prismatic semi lustrous mostly opaque crystals of Celestine in a cluster with little attached matrix. In good condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 3.3 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
