The Blue Tier, located in the Break O'Day region of northeast Tasmania, Australia, is a historic highland plateau defined geologically by an extensive Devonian granite batholith. This massive igneous intrusion formed through complex magmatic processes, resulting in widespread tin mineralization that became the focus of intense mining activity starting in the late nineteenth century. The primary ore mineral extracted from these granitic lodes and surrounding alluvial deposits is cassiterite, a dense heavy oxide mineral that served as the primary source of economic tin production for the region.
