Cassiterite with Albite, Muscovite
specimen number:
9731001
location:
Pingwu, Huya, Mount Little Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang, Sichuan, China
description: Located in the high alpine region of Sichuan Province, the Mount Little Xuebaoding deposit in Pingwu County features complex quartz-mica and quartz-feldspar-mica veins formed through granitic intrusions into metamorphic host rocks like marble and schist. Commercial mining and dedicated specimen collecting began accelerating around the mid-to-late 1990s, turning the area into a world-famous locality renowned for yielding exceptional, museum-quality mineral specimens such as large euhedral orange scheelite crystals, gemmy blue tabular beryl crystals, the rare mineral kesterite, etc.
An outstanding example for the species, numerous crystals of lustrous black twinned cassiterite, the largest crystal almost 8.0 cm in size, set aesthetically and perfectly up on a matrix of bladed muscovite crystals with minor white albite. In super condition. The quality is outstanding.
