Classic specimen from the Czech Republic, lustrous crystals of cassiterite measuring to 0.6 cm in size on matrix. The crystals show slight translucency and strongly lit. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

Horni Slavkov was founded as a mining settlement at the beginning of the 13th century and received its first written mention in 1335. It developed into a prominent mining hub for silver and tin during the 15th and 16th centuries, achieved the status of a free mining town in 1547, and experienced subsequent centuries of fluctuating activity, including mid-20th century extraction before industrial mining operations permanently wound down toward the end of the 20th century. Geologically, the area is situated within the Slavkovsky les region of the Krusne Hory (Ore Mountains) system, characterized by complex variscan granite massifs and hydrothermal vein systems that host rich deposits of tin, tungsten, and secondary mineralization.
