Calcite
specimen number:
2063062
location:
Nashik, Maharashtra, India
description: The zeolites of Nashik in Maharashtra, India, are hosted within the vast basaltic lava flows of the Deccan Traps, which formed during massive volcanic activity millions of years ago. Over geological time, circulating thermal waters rich in silica and other elements filled gas cavities and vesicles within the cooling basalt, allowing spectacular secondary crystal growths to precipitate. Rather than traditional industrial ore mining, the extraction of these world-class mineral specimens is primarily driven by commercial quarrying and dedicated mineral collecting. Local stone quarries cut through the basalt flow tops, accidentally exposing pristine crystal pockets that have made the region famous among global collectors and museums for its breathtaking aesthetic formations.
Attractive interpenetrating grouping of colorless glassy gemmy calcite crystals set up on a very small amount of matrix. This is in super condition. From the early 2000's. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.0 x 4.0 x 4.0 cm (small-cabinet)
