Baricite
specimen number:
2351004
location:
Rapid Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada
description: Rapid Creek in the remote northern Yukon is underlain by the Cretaceous Rapid Creek Formation, consisting of phosphatic ironstones, shales, and quartz-siderite veins formed through complex sedimentary and hydrothermal processes. The area has no commercial mining history, but gained global renown among mineral collectors and researchers following its discovery in the late 20th century as a premier locality for rare secondary phosphate species like baricite, which crystallized in open fractures and vugs.
Rich blue masses throughout matrix. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger.
