Azurite with Quartz
specimen number:
2063346
location:
Sierra Rica, Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico
description: Located in eastern Chihuahua, Mexico, near the Texas border, Sierra Rica in the Manuel Benavides Municipality features regional copper deposits formed within oxidized zones of carbonate-hosted ore systems. Local small-scale mining operations historically extracted copper ores from these deposits for several decades, unearthing notable secondary minerals along the weathered zones. Mineral collectors value the locality for its distinct azurite specimens, which typically occur as dark blue crystalline rosettes, sharp micro-crystals, or spherical aggregates scattered across pale matrix rocks.
One side of this matrix is attractively covered by deep blue brightly lustrous sparkling crystals of azurite averaging 0.2 cm in size. Some crystallized quartz is present. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
