location:
Campbell Mine, Bisbee, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Campbell Mine, located in Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA, is one of the most famous localities in the Warren mining district, renowned for its rich copper deposits and magnificent mineral specimens. Sunk in the early twentieth century and operated extensively by the Phelps Dodge Corporation until the late 1970s, the underground mine penetrated deep carbonate replacement deposits where primary sulfide ores interacted with regional faulting. Beyond its massive economic production of copper, gold, and silver, the Campbell Mine became legendary among mineral collectors for producing world-class specimens of azurite, malachite, native copper, and calcite, solidifying its place in American mining history.
A wonderful miniature for this classic Arizona locality, thick lustrous bladed crystals of azurite, the most prominent crystal measuring 4.0 x 3.0 x 1.0 cm in size standing straight up from a small amount of matrix. Crystallized all around with some matrix attached on the backside as seen in the video. One of the smaller crystals at first appears to have damage, this is natural crystallization. The piece is in really fine condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 5.0 x 4.0 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
