Lizaste, Aouli, Mibladen, Ait Oufella Caidat, Midelt Cercle, Midelt, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: Located in the Draa-Tafilalet region of Morocco, the Lizaste vein system forms part of the historical Aouli mining site near Mibladen. The local geology is characterized by Paleozoic host rocks cut by hydrothermal vein networks rich in lead, copper, and zinc mineralization. Exploited commercially by French mining companies during the early twentieth century primarily for lead ore, the underground workings were later abandoned, paving the way for artisanal miners and specimen collectors. Today, the site is well known for producing deep blue crystallized azurite.
Sparkling deep blue crystal groupings of micro azurite to 1.4 cm across scattered throughout both sides of this crystallized colorless gypsum matrix. A floater that is complete all around with no points of attachment. Minor malachite present. In good condition, the specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
