Anatase on Magnetite
specimen number:
2062834
location:
Perovskite Hill, Magnet Cove, Arkansas, USA
description: Perovskite Hill is part of the Magnet Cove igneous complex in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, which is a bowl-shaped ring structure formed by Cretaceous intrusive alkaline rocks rich in rare minerals. Geologically renowned for its exceptional diversity of uncommon rock types and accessory minerals, the area became famous among mineralogists and rockhounds following early scientific descriptions in the 19th century. Over the decades, collectors and prospectors have frequented the locality to extract specimens such as sharp crystal aggregates of calcium titanium oxide minerals from weathered residual soils and surrounding igneous outcrops.
Small but choice combination piece, this a loose octahedral crystal of magnetite hosting a smaller crystal of anatase. In good condition.
