Yugawaralite
specimen number:
2351040
location:
Kandivali Quarry, Malad, Pune, Maharashtra, India
description: The Malad quarries, historically active across the Malad and Kandivali areas of Salsette Island, became prominent during the rapid urban expansion of Mumbai in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, supplying stone extensively between roughly 1860 and 1930 before operations gradually wound down. Geologically, the area is characterized by volcanic formations composed primarily of yellowish-brown trachyte rock, popularly known as Malad stone, which was heavily utilized for the facades of many iconic neo-Gothic and heritage monuments across the city.
Very good example for the species, a glassy gemmy sharp crystal of yugawaralite 1.7 cm in size and a pocket lined with crystallized quartz. In great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger.
