Wulfenite with Cerussite
specimen number:
2063118
location:
Dogwater Mine, Graham Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Dogwater Mine, situated within the Aravaipa Mining District in Laurel Canyon of Graham County, Arizona, is a small historical prospect developed within a rugged region marked by faulting and intrusive activity. Geologically, the deposit consists of mineralized fault and fissure zones cutting through older sedimentary and volcanic rocks, where hydrothermal solutions deposited primary lead and associated base metal sulfides. Over time, deep weathering and oxidation of these veins created an altered zone that fostered secondary mineral formation. Within these oxidized cavity environments, wulfenite crystallized alongside other secondary lead minerals like massicot and cerussite, drawing occasional interest from mineral prospectors and micromount collectors exploring the district's old workings.
Neat locality example for the species with yellow lustrous sparkling crystals of wulfenite to 0.2 cm in size fairly rich across the top of matrix. Micro cerussite is present as well. In good condition. Collected by Ray DeMark in 1981.
