Wulfenite
specimen number:
2062625
location:
Glove Mine, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Glove Mine, located in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, was initially claimed in 1907 with major production occurring during the mid-twentieth century. Geologically, the deposit sits within permeable zones formed by the intersection of bedding plane faults and Paleozoic limestone strata. Extensive subterranean solution activity and deep secondary oxidation created open cavities and tubular ore chimneys, which inspired the mine name because the deposits resembled fingers filling a glove. These leached zones concentrated rich secondary minerals and made the site famous among collectors for producing distinctive tabular wulfenite specimens.
A superb loose crystal of lustrous caramel colored wulfenite with little attached matrix. Several smaller crystals present on the backside of the piece. This is in very good condition. Fine miniature for this Arizona classic. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
