Gemmy lustrous orange red tabular crystals of wulfenite to 0.8 cm on edge set on matrix. The prominent crystal is aesthetically arranged and in very good condition. There are several smaller crystals of wulfenite present, the showing some damage. Still very nice for this old Arizona classic. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

The Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine near Tiger, Pinal County, Arizona, was originally discovered in the late 19th century and evolved through multiple operational phases focusing on gold, lead, zinc, molybdenum, and vanadium. Initially worked for gold and later for wulfenite during World War I, the mine gained major prominence in the 1930s and 1940s as a complex polymetallic producer. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Basin and Range province where Precambrian Oracle Granite is intruded by Tertiary rhyolite and associated volcanic breccias. Mineralization is localized along complex fault and vein systems, notably split by the Mammoth fault, where extensive hydrothermal activity and deep oxidation created a renowned zone of secondary lead, zinc, and rare micro-minerals before operations permanently ceased in the early 1950s due to water flooding and falling metal prices.
