Vanadinite
specimen number:
2062991
location:
Apache Mine, Gila Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Apache Mine in Gila County, Arizona, features vein-style ore deposits formed within Proterozoic quartzite formations that were later disrupted by complex diabase intrusive activity during the Late Cretaceous to Tertiary periods. Originally discovered in 1875 and operated extensively between 1929 and 1957, the site transitioned through surface and underground workings to extract valuable secondary metals and vanadium-bearing ores. Today, the location is celebrated primarily for mineral collecting, yielding vibrant red crystals of vanadinite.
Classic Arizona specimen with beautiful red barrel shaped crystals of vanadanite to 0.5 cm in size on a breccia matrix. Attractive with good luster, in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark, who acquired the specimen in 1982.
Size: 6.5 x 4.0 x 1.0 cm (small-cabinet)
