Attractive orange red lustrous hoppered crystals of vanadinite to 0.5 cm in size off matrix. Aesthetic and in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. Collected in the early 1980s.

The Grey Horse Mine, located in the Dripping Spring Mountains of Pinal County, Arizona, was actively developed around 1916 by the United States Vanadium Development Company amidst a regional surge of interest in alternative metal ores. Geologically, the underground workings are situated within the Basin and Range province, where multiple tunnel levels follow a mineralized dike and slip-face along a fault zone. Despite early promotional optimism describing it as a major prospective producer, milling operations struggled, leading to sporadic leasing activity through subsequent decades rather than sustained large-scale production.
