2062672

location:
Cardiff Mine, Haliburton Co., Ontario, Canada

description:
Non-lustrous black crystal of uraninite measuring 0.5 cm across set perfectly at the top of matrix. In good condition.

The Cardiff Mine refers to operations located in Cardiff Township within Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada, which became a focal point during the regional uranium mining boom of the 1950s. Major local properties like the Bicroft and Dyno mines drove rapid community development and brought underground extraction to the area. Following the depletion of ore bodies and subsequent market collapses, these mines were permanently closed by the early 1960s, and the sites have since undergone environmental decommissioning and regulatory monitoring.
