Tyrolite
specimen number:
2354026
location:
Novoveska Huta, Kosice, Slovakia
description: Novoveska Huta, situated near Spisska Nova Ves in the Kosice Region of Slovakia, features a complex geological setting characterized by Permian volcanosedimentary rocks that host stratiform copper, uranium, and molybdenum ores alongside hydrothermal veins. Mining history in the district dates back centuries, with extensive historical extraction focusing primarily on copper ores and later on twentieth-century uranium mining. In the oxidized supergene zones of the copper deposits, collectors and mineralogists have recovered notable secondary minerals, most prominently tyrolite. The locality is famous among collectors for producing vibrant, emerald-green to blue-green radial fan-like aggregates and leafy crusts of tyrolite perched on matrix.
Attractive lustrous platy crystalline tyrolite across the top of matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of R.W. Thomssen.
