Tremolite
specimen number:
2062973
location:
Bancroft, Ontario, Canada
description: The geology of the Bancroft area in Ontario, Canada, is defined by complex Proterozoic metamorphic and Grenville-province rock formations, where intense heat and pressure interacted with ancient limestones and intrusive pegmatites to create diverse skarns and marble contact zones ideal for silicate formation. While commercial mining in the region historically targeted uranium, iron, and a few industrial minerals rather than tremolite specifically, the area gained international fame as a premier destination for recreational rockhounding. Amateur collectors and geologists have long frequented Bancroft's numerous road cuts, quarries, and skarn deposits to manually search for and extract well-formed mineral specimens, establishing the town's enduring reputation as the mineral capital of Canada.
Lustrous slightly translucent deep green double terminated crystals of tremolite to 1.5 cm in size set nicely up on matrix. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
