Topaz with Quartz
specimen number:
2063243
location:
Klein Spitzkoppe, Daures, Erongo, Namibia
description: Klein Spitzkoppe, situated in the Erongo Region of Namibia, is a iconic granite inselberg famous for its exceptional pegmatite and hydrothermal cavity minerals. The locality formed during the Early Cretaceous period as part of the Damaraland igneous complex, where residual magmatic fluids enriched in fluorine allowed spectacular crystals to crystallize within pockets of coarse granite. Recognized by mineral collectors since the late 19th century and worked periodically by small-scale artisanal miners, Klein Spitzkoppe is globally renowned for producing superb, highly lustrous, and frequently gem-quality topaz specimens in combination with smoky quartz and feldspar.
Fine thumbnail specimen for this Namibian classic with a gemmy mostly colorless and glassy crystal of topaz, a gemmy smoky quartz crystal coming off one side. In great condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
