Tinaksite in Charoite
specimen number:
2354209
location:
Muran Massif, Chara and Tokko Rivers, Aldan Shield, Russia
description: The Murun Massif, situated near the Chara and Tokko Rivers in the Aldan Shield of Russia, is an extraordinary alkaline intrusive complex formed through specialized magmatic and metasomatic processes involving potassium-rich rocks. Discovered and explored during geological surveys in the mid-to-late twentieth century, the region became internationally famous for its unique mineral deposits found virtually nowhere else on Earth. Local mining and mineral collecting efforts have centered on extracting rare ornamental and collector stones from these distinct alkaline veins. Among its most celebrated geological treasures are charoite, a striking purple silicate mineral named after the nearby Chara River, and tinaksite, an uncommon silicate that frequently grows in close association with it.
Bronze lustrous crystals of tinaksite measuring to 1.2 cm in length embedded within a purple massive charoite with sprays of black lustrous aegirine crystals. Good example for this mineral.
Size: 5.0 x 3.5 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
