Sulfur
specimen number:
2062885
location:
Steamboat Springs, Washoe Co., Nevada, USA
description: Steamboat Springs in Washoe County, Nevada, is a renowned active hydrothermal system characterized by volcanic rocks, hot springs, and fumaroles that mimic modern ore-depositing environments. Historically, the area gained attention during the nineteenth century as a travel stop and a spa resort destination, while prospectors and mineral collectors later targeted its unique thermal deposits. Native sulfur is famously found here as bright yellow crystalline crusts and encrustations precipitated directly from sulfur-rich volcanic vapors and hot spring activity around the thermal vents.
Classic for this locality, a loose skeletal yellow translucent lustrous crystal grouping of native sulfur. In good condition all around with just slight micro-damage present on the backside. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
