Suanite with Calcite
specimen number:
2351011
location:
Titovskoe B deposit, Polar Yakutia, Sakha, Russia
description: The Titovskoe deposit, situated in the Tas-Khayakhtakh Range of Polar Yakutia within the Sakha Republic of Russia, is a high grade boron skarn deposit formed through intense high temperature metasomatic interactions between intrusive magmas and carbonate rocks. Explored primarily for its complex and unusual borate mineralization rather than large-scale industrial metal extraction, it serves as a globally significant type and reference locality for rare borate species. The mineral suanite, an anhydrous magnesium borate, occurs extensively within these magnesian skarns alongside associated phases like kotoite and ludwigite, forming compact crystalline masses and aggregates driven by the high boron activity characteristic of the region's geological evolution.
Grayish white fibrous suanite rich throughout matrix. Good example for this rare mineral. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski.
Size: 3.3 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
