location:
An Phu, Luc Yen, Yen Bai, Vietnam
description: Located in the Luc Yen District of Yen Bai Province in northern Vietnam, An Phu is renowned for its rich metamorphic geology consisting of marble formations intruded by granitic pegmatites. Artisanal miners and gemstone collectors have worked the alluvial deposits and weathered marble outcrops here since the late twentieth century, recovering exceptional crystals of red ruby, blue sapphire, spinel, and pargasite. Today, the region serves as a central hub for Vietnam's vibrant gem trade and produces some of the world's most prized mineral specimens for international collectors.
