Sphalerite with Quartz
specimen number:
8604817
location:
Deardorff mine, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA
description:
An enormous lustrous sharp black crystal of sphalerite 2.4 cm in size on a crystallized quartz matrix with numerous smaller crystals. What at first appears to be damaged or chipping on this one is actually just a different color along the edges of the big crystal, and the piece is in remarkably good condition. Quite nice for this old locality.
