Silver (stabalized)
specimen number:
2062824
location:
Bulldog Mountain Mine, Creede, Mineral Co., Colorado, USA
description: The geology of the Bulldog Mountain Mine area in the Creede mining district consists primarily of Tertiary volcanic rocks, including ash-flow tuffs and lavas associated with the San Juan volcanic field, where mineralization is hosted within fault-controlled structural veins containing valuable precious metals. Although early prospectors largely overlooked the concealed vein structures during the initial 19th-century booms, subsequent United States Geological Survey mapping in the 1950s highlighted the potential of the Bulldog Mountain fault zone. This led modern prospectors to stake claims and option the property to the Homestake Mining Company in the 1960s, which successfully developed a major underground operation that became the district's last large-scale silver producer from 1969 until its closure in 1985.
Rich wires of native silver across the top of a crystallized quartz matrix. The wires have been stabilized onto the matrix with glue. In great condition, very choice for this Colorado classic. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
