Classic Mexican silver specimen, dendritic twinned crystals of native silver in a cluster with very little attached calcite and arsenopyrite. In great condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

The New Nevada Mine, historically known as the Nevada Valenciana, is located within the famous Batopilas mining district of southwestern Chihuahua, Mexico. While the broader district has roots tracing back to the early seventeenth century and saw major industrial consolidation by the late 1800s, the specific workings of the New Nevada gained modern prominence following a major revival in the 1970s and early 1980s by local miners. The mine has experienced intermittent periods of activity rather than a single permanent closure, with underground operations scaling down significantly after initial high-grade specimen pockets were exhausted. Geologically, the deposit sits within the rugged volcanic and intrusive terrain of the Sierra Madre Occidental province, where thick Tertiary sequences cut through older Mesozoic rocks. Mineralization is structurally controlled within steep fault zones, characterized by erratic, pipe-like ore shoots consisting predominantly of native silver hosted within a calcite gangue.
