Shattuckite
specimen number:

location:
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico
description: Situated near Cuitaca in Sonora, Mexico, the Milpillas Mine is a renowned open-pit copper operation that began modern commercial extraction in the mid-2000s. The deposit is hosted within deeply weathered and faulted volcanic rocks where extensive supergene enrichment generated a stunning array of secondary copper minerals. Among these, the mine became world-famous for producing exceptional specimens of shattuckite, a vibrant blue copper silicate that occurs as velvety botryoidal crusts and radial fibrous aggregates. While commercial mining focuses on copper production, the site has yielded some of the finest shattuckite and associated mineral specimens known to collectors worldwide.
Beautiful velvety blue crystallized shattuckite in a cluster with very little attached matrix. This is in terrific condition all around. Excellent for the species, especially for this prolific Mexican locality.
