Schneiderhohnite with Scorodite, Lollingite
specimen number:
2354063
location:
Urucum Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: The Urucum mine (also known as the Urucum pegmatite or Urucum claim), located near Galileia in the Doce River basin of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is set within a complex, highly fractionated granitic pegmatite intruded into Precambrian mica schists. Mined primarily for gemstones such as tourmaline, kunzite, and morganite alongside industrial minerals like beryl and quartz, this world-renowned locality is also famous among collectors for its rich array of secondary rare phosphate and arsenate minerals. Among these specialty occurrences is schneiderhohnite, an extremely rare iron arsenite mineral that develops as minute, dark brown to black triclinic crystals and crystalline crusts within oxidized zones, serving as a prized addition for systematic mineral collectors worldwide.
Black radiating micro crystals of schneiderhohnite to 0.2 cm in size fairly rich across the front of a massive lollingite matrix with micro crystalline greenish yellow botryoidal scorodite. In good condition, good rich example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski.
