Roscherite with Fluorapatite
specimen number:
2354062
location:
Greifenstein adit, Ehrenfriedersdorf, Saxony, Germany
description: The Greifenstein adit (Greifenstein Stollen) is a historic underground drainage and mining gallery situated in the famous Ehrenfriedersdorf mining district within the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Saxony, Germany. Geologically, the region is renowned for late-Variscan granite intrusions that induced extensive hydrothermal mineralization and greisen formation within surrounding metamorphic schists. Historically exploited since the medieval era for rich tin and silver deposits, the adit helped drain regional mines and access vein networks. Today, the site and its surrounding mine dumps are highly celebrated among mineral collectors for producing world-class mineral specimens, including lustrous cassette-like cassiterite crystals, tabular dark-green zinnwaldite mica, pale violet to deep purple fluorite, quartz, and arsenopyrite.
Micro yellow brown crystals of roscherite in an open pocket approximately 1.7 x 0.5 cm in size within a granitic matrix. Tiny micro crystals of fluorapatite present as well. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski, as well as an antique label from noted German dealer Wilhelm Maucher.
Size: 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm (miniature)
