Romeite
specimen number:
2354083
location:
Miguel Burnier, Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: Miguel Burnier, a district of Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is situated within the mineral-rich Iron Quadrangle (Quadrilatero Ferrifero), a region renowned for its complex Precambrian metamorphic geology and extensive iron and manganese deposits. Manganese and iron mining flourished in Miguel Burnier beginning in the late 19th century, exposing secondary alteration zones where rare mineral species developed. Collectors and mineralogists value the locality for producing historical specimens of the romeite group, a series of calcium antimonates that typically occur as small, well-formed octahedral crystals in yellow, brown, or reddish hues embedded in matrix, marking an important classic locality in South American mineralogy.
A very choice old time example for this rare mineral. Sparkling brown crystals of romeite are scattered sparsely throughout matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with several previous antique labels as shown at the end of the video. Previously from the collection of Eric Laskowski.
