Richelsdorfite
specimen number:
2354115
location:
Burrus Mine, Washoe Co., Nevada, USA
description: Located in the Pyramid Mining District of Washoe County, Nevada, the Burrus Mine sits within a complex geological setting of silicified, sericitized ash-flow tuffs and altered Pliocene quartz latite host rocks. Historical mining targeted hydrothermally deposited vein systems containing copper, silver, and gold ore minerals such as enargite and pyrite. Post-mining oxidation of these complex metallic sulfide deposits allowed supergene solutions to form rare secondary minerals in small vugs and fractures. Among these discoveries is richelsdorfite, a rare calcium copper antimony arsenate hydroxide chloride hydrate that occurs as tiny, sky-blue to turquoise tabular crystal clusters within quartz cavities. Mineral collectors highly value specimens from this location, as the mine dumps and open workings produced some of the finest micromount examples of richelsdorfite in North America.
Bluish green micro crystals of richelsdorfite scattered across the top of matrix. In good condition.
Size: 6.5 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
