Rhodochrosite
specimen number:
2063010
location:
Oppu Mine, Nishimeya-mura, Nakatsugaru, Aomori, Japan
description: The Oppu Mine in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, features hydrothermal vein deposits formed within complex regional geology, yielding rich metallic ores and associated gangue minerals. Originally opened in the late seventeenth century for silver extraction, the mine later transitioned to other metals before operations eventually ceased. Today, it is globally famous among mineral collectors for producing highly prized, bubble-gum pink rhodochrosite specimens, often found in botryoidal or crystallized forms alongside quartz and pyrite.
A nice reference quality example for this classic Japanese specimen. Sparkling micro crystals of pink rhodochrosite filling a couple of open pockets within this matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 4.0 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
