Pink rhombohedral crystals of rhodochrosite to 0.8 cm in size on matrix. Some cleaving present, this still in very good locality example for the species. Collected in 1996.

The Taylor Mine in Baraga County, Michigan, was discovered in 1880 and experienced its primary period of active iron and manganese production between 1880 and 1883, followed by only sporadic exploration and minor shipments through the early 20th century. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the western end of the Marquette Iron Range, hosted primarily by the Michigamme Formation of the Paleoproterozoic Menominee Group. The mineralization features secondary enrichment processes that concentrated iron and manganese oxides, including notable soft-ore bodies, limonite, and well-crystallized pyrolusite, rhodochrosite and manganite within brecciated zones.
