description: Tiger's Eye is a popular ornamental gemstone traditionally forms through the pseudomorphic replacement of fibrous riebeckite by quartz, with major deposits located in South Africa. As the original fibrous framework is preserved and impregnated by silica, subsequent oxidation of the trapped iron content creates the characteristic golden-brown colors and silky, shimmering effect known as chatoyancy.
An example of what many refer to as Tiger's Eye, this a thick vein of fibrous riebeckite now replaced by quartz. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This weighs 105.67 g.
