Quartz
specimen number:
2354174
location:
Stanley Butte, Graham Co., Arizona, USA
description: Situated near San Carlos in Graham County, Arizona, Stanley Butte is a prominent volcanic feature within the Basin and Range province, characterized by Tertiary volcanic host rocks and mid-Tertiary granitic intrusions. Mineralization in the area formed through contact metamorphism and hydrothermal fluid activity, creating classic skarn zones enriched in silicate minerals. The site became widely known to mineral collectors in the mid-twentieth century, primarily for producing fine specimens of dark green to olive andradite garnet, often occurring as well-formed dodecahedrons and trapezohedrons. Historical prospecting in the surrounding Stanley Mining District targeted minor copper and silver ores, but the bluffs of Stanley Butte itself gained lasting fame almost exclusively as a premier locality for amateur mineral collecting, with specimens featured in museum and private collections worldwide.
A loose grouping of frosty mostly transparent colorless tessin habit quartz crystals without matrix. There is one large prominent crystal in several smaller ones present. In very good condition all around.
