Quartz
specimen number:
2341354
location:
Gourrama, Er Rachidia, Meknes-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Gourrama area in southeastern Morocco is situated within a complex geological transition zone influenced by the Atlas mountain building episodes and extensive sedimentary and hydrothermal activity. The terrain features ancient basement exposures alongside sedimentary formations cut by mineralizing fluids, which have created local deposits of barite, iron, and quartz associated with carbonate and vein structures. Historical and modern activity in this remote region primarily involves small-scale artisanal mining and prospecting rather than large industrial extraction. Mineral collectors value the area for occasional fine specimens of quartz, siderite, and related accessory minerals harvested from local pockets and small regional workings.
Lustrous mostly gem colorless crystals of quartz measuring to 5.0 cm in size in a cluster with little attached matrix. In good condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen and dates to 2008.
