location:
Bald Hornet claim, North Bend, Washington, USA
description: Situated near North Bend in King County, Washington, the Bald Hornet claim is a well-known mineral locality set within the hydrothermally altered volcanic and intrusive rocks of the Cascade Range. First developed by mineral collectors in the late twentieth century, this small-scale prospect became famous for producing exceptional quartz specimens from pockets in quartz-rich shear zones. The site is particularly celebrated among collectors for yielding rare, highly defined Japan law twin quartz crystals, which occur when two distinct quartz crystals intergrow at a precise eighty-four-degree angle, making specimens from this claim some of the finest examples in North America.
A loose gem glassy colorless Japan law twin quartz crystal. In great condition. There are inclusions of a previous green acicular mineral, possibly actinolite.
