Glassy very pretty translucent purple crystals of quartz, the variety called amethyst, measuring to 1.5 cm in size in a cluster with little attached matrix. This is naturally crystallized all around, And in excellent condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He obtained the piece from Rod and Helen Tyson around the year 1990.

Pearl Station is a historic rural locality and former railway point situated northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario, in McTavish Township. The surrounding Pearl and Loon Lake region developed extensively during the early-to-mid 20th century alongside regional railway expansion and local resource prospecting. Geologically, the area is famous for its unique hydrothermal vein and breccia systems situated near the boundary between ancient Archean granitic basement rocks and younger Proterozoic sedimentary formations. These fractured fault zones allowed iron-rich hydrothermal solutions to circulate and crystallize over time, producing the world-renowned Thunder Bay amethyst—locally characterized by deep purple quartz crystals frequently capped or accented by brilliant red hematite.
