Beautiful grouping of lustrous mostly gemmy quartz crystals, these green in color at the base, tapering into a light purple gemmy at the top. The color is about half and half. Complete all around, this is in terrific condition. Very little matrix is attached to the base. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the piece from well-known Belgian dealer Gilbert Gauthier in 1991.

Megalo Chorio is an area closely linked to the rich mining heritage of Serifos Island in the Cyclades. While mining activity on the island dates back to antiquity, modern industrial operations in the region officially began around 1869 and expanded significantly under various Greek and French-German companies through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The mines experienced a major labor strike in 1916 that marked a turning point for Greek labor rights before production steadily declined, leading to the final closure of the island's mines between 1963 and 1965. Geologically, the area is characterized by metamorphic basement rocks of the Attic-Cycladic crystalline complex, featuring extensive contact-metamorphic ore deposits containing rich reserves of iron and other metallic minerals formed within carbonate and schist formations.
