location:
Les Farges Mine, Ussel, Correze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France
description: The Les Farges Mine near Ussel in the Correze department of France has a rich history spanning from ancient Gallo-Roman workings for metal extraction to industrial modern operations. In contemporary times, industrial mining took place from 1974 to 1981 by the Societe Miniere de Correze, targeting substantial deposits of metal ores and barite. Geologically, the site features hydrothermal vein systems enclosed within local granite formations. The deposit is internationally celebrated by mineralogists for producing some of the world's finest, most diverse crystal specimens, particularly vibrant green pyromorphite alongside fluorite, wulfenite, and other secondary minerals.
Classic French specimen with yellow green crystals of pyromorphite to 0.5 cm in size mostly covering a breccia chip matrix. Crystallized completely all around and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
