description: Schneeberg, located in the Erzgebirge region of Saxony, Germany, features complex hydrothermal vein systems hosted in metamorphic rock formations that became world famous for rich silver and cobalt ores. Underground mining began extensively in the 15th century, driving a major economic boom and yielding legendary mineral specimens, including ruby silver. Among these treasures, proustite formed as a late-stage secondary or hydrothermal mineral in the veins, prized by collectors for its brilliant ruby-red color, transparency, and delicate crystal clusters.
Superb cluster of this old German classic. Deep red lustrous well crystallized cluster of proustite without matrix. In super condition all around. The quality is outstanding. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark, as well as one from the Bergakademie Freiberg.
