Prehnite with Quartz (repaired)
specimen number:
2341103
location:
Djebel Melh, Figuig Cercle, Figuig, Oriental, Morocco
description: Located in the eastern desert region of Morocco near Bou Arfa, Djebel Melh is a notable geological locality characterized by complex regional folding and metamorphic-hydrothermal activity within the Atlas mountain structures. The site gained prominence among mineral collectors primarily through targeted artisanal prospecting and historical finds yielding distinctive specimens of translucent green prehnite. These crystals typically form in radiating fan-shaped aggregates and globular crusts within cavity fillings, frequently associated with accessory minerals like quartz and epidote.
Lustrous clusters of light green prehnite measuring to 4.2 cm in size across the top of this matrix with crystallized quartz. The top prominent crystal grouping has been repaired back onto the piece. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
