description:
A stalactitic limonite matrix, the front thickly coated with sparkling micro crystals of black plattnerite. This is in good condition. Colorless sparkling micro crystals of hemimorphite are richly covering the back of the matrix. Minor calcite present as well. A previous label comes with the specimen from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the specimen while in Mapimi in 1973.

The Ojuela Mine, located near Mapimi in Durango, Mexico, was originally opened by Spanish prospectors in 1598 and experienced periods of intense extraction until its final major closure around 1932 due to exhausted reserves and water issues. Geologically, the mine is situated within deformed Cretaceous limestone, where extensive hydrothermal mineralization produced rich oxidized ore bodies containing numerous rare secondary mineral species.
