Plancheite
specimen number:
2062984
location:
Shinkolobwe, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
description: Located within the rich metallogenic province of Haut-Katanga in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Shinkolobwe and Kambove regions feature complex Neoproterozoic sedimentary rocks hosting world-class copper, cobalt, and uranium deposits formed through intense tectonic activity and supergene weathering. Historically, these areas became world-renowned for extensive mining operations that supplied vital global resources, while also producing exceptional mineral specimens highly prized by collectors. Among the notable secondary minerals found within these rich copper deposits is plancheite, a striking blue silicate that typically forms radiant, fibrous aggregates through weathering processes.
An open pocket approximately 1.5 x 1.3 cm across lined with attractive velvety blue plancheite. In good condition and nice for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
