Pascoite
specimen number:
2354229
location:
Blue Cap Mine, San Juan Co., Utah, USA
description: Located in the Henry Mountains region of San Juan County, Utah, the Blue Cap Mine is a historic uranium and vanadium mining site situated within the sedimentary rocks of the Morrison Formation, where mineral-rich groundwater circulated through permeable sandstone lenses. The area has a history of mid-20th century prospecting and extraction driven by the demand for strategic energy and alloy elements. The mine is particularly famous among mineral collectors for producing type-locality and world-class specimens of pascoite, a rare hydrated calcium vanadate mineral that forms bright orange to yellow crystalline crusts and aggregates resulting from the secondary oxidation of primary vanadium ores.
A good rich example for the species, the top of this matrix is mostly covered by crystallized orange pascoite. In very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger.
