location:
Snowbird Mine, Mineral Co., Montana, USA
description: The Snowbird Mine in Mineral County, Montana, is a small past producer of fluorite discovered in 1956 and operated briefly through the late 1950s. Geologically, the deposit sits within the Bitterroot Mountains of the Northern Rocky Mountains, hosted by Precambrian argillite of the region. The deposit is notable for its unusual carbonatite-like or hydrothermal-pegmatitic veins containing massive fluorite, quartz, and calcite. It has gained fame among mineral collectors as a classic locality for rare earth element carbonates, specifically yielding sharp, translucent, brown crystals of parisite-(Ce) .
A cluster of brown prismatic semi lustrous parisite-ce crystals without matrix. In good condition all around. Classic material for this Montana locality.
