Nepheline
specimen number:
2341061
location:
Jebel Bou-Agrao, Amersid, Ait Oufella Caidat, Midelt Cercle, Midelt, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: Jebel Bou-Agrao in the Midelt region of Morocco is part of the famous Tamazeght alkaline complex, a geological formation characterized by silica-poor igneous rocks such as nepheline syenite that formed through complex magmatic processes. Mining and mineral collecting in this remote mountainous area have grown significantly due to the presence of unique cavities and pegmatites yielding exceptional specimen-grade minerals. Nepheline occurs here as distinct crystals embedded within the alkaline intrusive rocks, frequently sought after by international collectors for its association with rare accessory phases like schorlomite.
Good example for the species with non-lustrous opaque terminated crystals of prismatic nepheline to 2.0 cm in height coming off matrix. This is in good condition and displays nicely. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
Size: 5.0 x 5.0 x 3.5 cm (miniature)
