Muscovite with Albite
specimen number:
9771516
location:
Krautgarten, Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, Zell am See, Salzburg, Austria
description: The geology of the Neukirchen am Grossvenediger region within the Hohe Tauern mountains is defined by complex crystalline basement rocks formed during major tectonic events and alpine mountain building. While large-scale industrial mining and quarrying were historically concentrated on other regional resources like salt, copper, and precious metals in Salzburg, this specific alpine area is renowned among enthusiasts for mineral collecting. The local geologic formations, shaped by intense pressure and high temperatures, feature fissure-bound crystal pockets and weathered debris fields where amateur and expert collectors search for alpine specimens such as quartz and other minerals.
Silvery thin platy crystal of muscovite 1.0 cm across standing straight up from a matrix of crystallized albite. Many smaller crystals of stilbite are present as well. This is in good condition.
Size: 3.0 x 2.3 x 1.0 cm (thumbnail)
